Biography

Rachel M. Cotton-Smith is an Graphic Designer, Illustrator and Mixed Media Painter living in Gastonia, North Carolina. She is a graduate of Brenau University Women's College, Gainesville Georgia where she earned her bachelors degree in Studio Art with an emphasis in Ceramics and Sculpture. In 2005, Cotton earned a Master's Degree of Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Cotton built a successful fine art and graphic design business in Savannah, Georgia before her relocation to Gastonia. Since moving to Gastonia in 2011, Cotton has taught art and design both privately as well as at Arts on Main and the Gaston School of the Arts while acting as the Director of Sales & Marketing for Stellar Platinum and the Gastonia Conference Center.

Exploring other career options in 2011, Cotton was pivotal in the building of Stellar Platinum, a hospitality and event management company with a specialty in catering and food services. Cotton used her skills in Sales & Marketing while learning a new set of skills including general management, financial management, analysis and strategic planning for distressed properties, execution and implementation of those strategic plans. While experiencing the corporate life, Cotton longed for the world of art, design and creativity.

With a varied professional background, Cotton thrives on developing concepts and ideas while actively manifesting them in the physical world. Cotton's design, illustration, and fine art work can be found in many collections across the United States as well as several publications including The Landings Magazine, Savannah; Charleston Magazine, Charleston; Belles & Beaus Magazine, Savannah; The Gaston Gazette Special Publications, and more.
